Short co-op games worth finishing with a partner

βš–οΈ The Verdict: LEGO Voyagers is the short co-op game to start with: about 4–5 hours per a LEGO representative, gentle enough for a non-gamer, and only one of you has to buy it. Pick A Way Out or Portal 2’s co-op campaign, about 6 hours each, for more bite. All five picks finish in two to four evenings.

How we define short

Short means about four evenings: roughly eight hours or less at two hours a night.

Pick by weekly hours

Five hours a week between you? Start with LEGO Voyagers. Only weekends free? A Way Out or Portal 2 fit two long sessions. Playing long distance? Skip Unravel Two, which is local co-op only.

The evenings table

Hours are main-story figures; evenings are our arithmetic at two hours a night.

LEGO Voyagers4–5 (LEGO representative)2–3Newcomers
Portal 2 co-op~6 (Valve writer’s estimate)3Puzzle pairs

What slows a first-time pair

Add one evening if co-op is new to you both, since coordination can stretch a run. That buffer is our planning estimate, not a measured figure. See how we sort games by evenings, and how accurate HowLongToBeat is.

Premise only, no spoilers, and none of us has played them.

The gentler picks

  • LEGO Voyagers: two players control LEGO bricks in a wordless puzzle-platformer, out September 15, 2025 on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch, per LEGO’s game page.
  • Unravel Two: a yarn puzzle-platformer where the second player steers the blue Yarny on a shared screen.

The sharper picks

  • A Way Out: a co-op-only prison-break story; each of you plays one inmate.
  • Portal 2: co-op is a separate campaign with its own story and chambers for two robots.
  • RV There Yet?: an online driving game about getting an RV home; a new map has been added since launch, so early length figures may run short.

Why It Takes Two and Split Fiction aren’t on this list

Both are famous co-op picks, but neither meets our short threshold.

How long they run

It Takes Two runs about 14 hours by HowLongToBeat’s figure as TheGamer reports it; some outlets say 10–12. Split Fiction runs 10–12, stretching to 12–15 with coordination. That’s five to eight evenings.

When to step up

Both offer a free Friend’s Pass (It Takes Two, Split Fiction). Finish one short pick first; A Way Out is by the same studio, Hazelight. With a free weekend instead, try games you can beat in a weekend.

Which to play first, and what comes after

Order matters when one of you is still learning.

A first-week order

Start with LEGO Voyagers, then Portal 2 or A Way Out, and keep RV There Yet? For a looser night. This is our planning suggestion from the hours above, not a play log; we haven’t played any of these five.

After you finish

When your partner’s away, games you can finish in one sitting suit a solo evening.
