How we make money, and what our advice can’t promise
How the site is funded
- Ads shown by Google AdSense and its partners
- Commissions from some store links, at no extra cost to you
What money never buys
- A better verdict or a higher ranking
- A place in our recommendations
- Control over what we write
1. General information
The Backlog Brief (thebacklogbrief.com) is owned and operated by KCS Groups, doing business as KCS Global Group. Everything we publish is for general information and entertainment, to help you decide which games are worth your time.
We research every article carefully, but we can’t guarantee that all information is complete, current, or error-free. Any decision you make to buy, download, or play a game is your own. This disclaimer should be read together with our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
2. Advertising
The Backlog Brief is free to read because it is supported by advertising. Ads on the website are served by Google AdSense and its advertising partners, who may use cookies to show ads based on your interests. Our Privacy Policy explains how this works and how to turn off personalized ads.
We do not choose the individual ads you see, and showing an ad does not mean we endorse the product or company advertised. Advertisers have no influence over our articles, verdicts, or rankings.
3. Affiliate links
Some links on the website may be affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a small commission from the store, at no extra cost to you. The price you pay is the same whether or not you use our link.
We follow the US Federal Trade Commission’s guidance on endorsements and disclosures. Articles that contain affiliate links include a clear disclosure near the top of the page, before the first affiliate link. You can read the FTC’s Endorsement Guides to learn more about these rules.
4. Review copies and sponsored content
Publishers or developers may sometimes offer us free copies of games for review. Accepting a review copy never guarantees coverage or a positive verdict. When an article is based on a copy we received for free, we say so in that article.
We do not publish paid reviews or paid rankings. If we ever publish sponsored content, it will be clearly labeled as sponsored and kept separate from our verdicts. Our full standards are in our editorial policy.
5. Playtime and evenings
Our playtime figures, including estimates converted into evenings, are based on research and represent a typical pace. Your own playtime may be shorter or longer depending on:
- Your experience with the genre and your skill level
- The difficulty setting you choose
- Whether you play only the main story or also side content and collectibles
- How long your own gaming sessions last
- Updates, patches, and new content released after we published
You can see how we calculate these estimates on our How We Review page.
6. Prices, deals, and availability
Any prices we mention are in US dollars unless stated otherwise and were accurate when we checked them. Game prices change often because of sales, bundles, subscriptions, regional pricing, and new editions. A game may also be removed from a store or subscription service without notice.
Always check the current price, edition, and platform on the store before you buy. We are not responsible for any difference between the price shown on our website and the price you pay.
7. Verdicts are opinions
Our verdicts on whether a game is worth your time are honest editorial opinions based on our research and analysis. They are not guarantees that you will enjoy a game. What’s worth it depends on your taste, budget, and free time, so we explain our reasoning to help you decide for yourself.
8. Age ratings and content
Some games we discuss contain violence, strong language, or other mature content. Recommending a game does not mean it is suitable for every player. Parents and guardians should check a game’s official age rating before letting children play. In the United States, ratings are provided by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB).
9. External links
Our articles link to game stores, publishers, official websites, and other sources. We don’t control these websites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, products, or privacy practices. A link does not mean we endorse everything on that website.
10. Trademarks and endorsement
Game titles, logos, characters, screenshots, and platform names such as PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Steam belong to their respective owners. We use them only to identify and discuss games. The Backlog Brief is independent and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any game publisher, developer, or platform unless we clearly state otherwise.
11. Errors and corrections
Mistakes can happen. If you notice wrong or outdated information, please tell us by emailing contact@thebacklogbrief.com. We review every report and fix confirmed errors as explained in our corrections policy.
