1. Who we are

The Backlog Brief (thebacklogbrief.com) is a gaming website that helps players decide which games are worth their time. It is owned and operated by KCS Groups, doing business as KCS Global Group (“we,” “us,” or “our”).

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit our website or contact us, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. By using the website, you acknowledge the practices described here. To learn more about our team, see our About Us page.

2. Information we collect

Information you send us by email

We don’t use contact forms, newsletters, comment sections, or user accounts. The only way to send us personal information directly is by email. When you write to us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and anything you choose to put in your message or attachments.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our web server and our service providers automatically receive certain technical information when you visit, including:

  • Your IP address and approximate location (such as country or city) derived from it
  • Browser type, device type, operating system, and screen size
  • Pages you view, the time and date of your visit, and how long you stay
  • The website or search result that referred you to us

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We and our partners use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies for advertising and analytics, as described in sections 4 to 6 below.

3. How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • Reply to your emails, including questions, feedback, and error reports
  • Investigate and fix errors under our corrections policy
  • Understand which articles are useful so we can improve our coverage
  • Show advertising that keeps the website free to read
  • Keep the website secure and prevent fraud, spam, and abuse
  • Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests

We do not use your emails to send marketing messages, and we do not add your address to any mailing list.

4. Advertising and Google AdSense

We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and other websites on the internet.

Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to our site and/or other sites. Other third-party ad vendors and ad networks may also serve ads on our website and use cookies for the same purpose.

You can control this in several ways:

  • Turn off personalized advertising from Google in Google Ads Settings
  • Opt out of personalized ads from many other vendors at aboutads.info or the Network Advertising Initiative

Opting out stops personalized ads, not all ads. You will still see ads, but they will be based on things like the page you are reading rather than your browsing history. To learn more, read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Advertising and any affiliate links are explained in our disclaimer. Advertisers have no influence over our verdicts.

5. Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our website, such as which pages are read most and how people find us. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information like pages viewed, time on page, device type, and approximate location. We see this information in aggregated reports, not as a profile of you personally.

You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting your data by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Google’s handling of this data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

6. Cookies and your choices

The cookies used on our website fall into three groups:

  • Essential cookies that help the website load, stay secure, and remember your privacy choices
  • Analytics cookies that tell us how the website is used
  • Advertising cookies set by Google and other ad partners to show and measure ads

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you refuse all cookies, refuse third-party cookies only, or clear cookies when you close the browser. Blocking cookies may affect how some parts of the website work.

Where required by law, such as for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, we ask for your consent before advertising and analytics cookies are used. You can change your choice at any time through the privacy message shown on the website.

7. How information is shared

We do not sell your email address or the contents of your messages, and we do not share them with advertisers. Information may be shared with:

  • Service providers that help us run the website, such as our web hosting company, email provider, and security services, only as needed to provide their services
  • Advertising and analytics partners, including Google, which collect information through cookies as described above
  • Authorities or other parties when required by law, or to protect our rights, our users, or the public
  • A new owner if the website or our business is sold, merged, or transferred
Under some US state privacy laws, allowing advertising partners to collect information through cookies for personalized ads may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, even though no money changes hands for your data. You can opt out as described in section 8.

8. Your US privacy rights

Depending on the state you live in, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, and other states with consumer privacy laws, you may have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we have collected about you and how it is used
  • Get a copy of your personal information
  • Correct inaccurate personal information
  • Delete your personal information
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information and of targeted advertising
  • Not be treated differently for using any of these rights

How to opt out of personalized ads: use the Google Ads Settings and industry opt-out links in section 4, block third-party cookies in your browser, or use a browser or extension that sends a Global Privacy Control signal where supported.

How to make a request: email info@thebacklogbrief.com with the subject line “Privacy rights request” and tell us which right you want to use. We may ask for information to verify your request, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law. You may also use an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf.

9. Visitors outside the US

Our website is written for players in the United States, but it can be visited from anywhere. Our business is based in India, and our service providers, including Google, may process information in the United States and other countries.

European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland: we rely on your consent for advertising and analytics cookies, and on our legitimate interests to reply to your emails and keep the website secure. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, to data portability, to withdraw consent at any time, and to complain to your local data protection authority.

India: you can exercise your rights under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, including access, correction, erasure, and grievance redressal, by emailing info@thebacklogbrief.com.

10. Children’s privacy

Our website is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, in line with the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email info@thebacklogbrief.com and we will delete it.

11. Retention and security

We keep emails only as long as needed to respond to you, handle any follow-up, and meet legal or record-keeping obligations. You can ask us to delete your emails at any time. Technical data collected by our partners is kept according to their own retention policies.

We use reasonable safeguards to protect information, including encrypted HTTPS connections across the website and restricted access to our email inboxes. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Links to other websites

Our articles may link to game stores, publishers, and other websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, and we encourage you to read the privacy policy of any website you visit.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when our practices or the law change. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be clearly noted on this page.
